The plate for a vehicle clutch has multiple sheets with the friction pads attached to the circumference of one plate, the latter being attached to support plates, a thicker plate between them being attached to the splined hub. These plates have holes through them, through which project coil springs. Under each spring is a strap (15) which retains the two outer plates which are thinner than the plate (14) forming the strap. This strap has a shouldered end, and its sides are punched by a U shaped tool which forms two ears (35) which are forced from the material of the strap and riveted over the thin plate, to grip it.
