An auxiliary liquid which is mixed with another liquid such as water is required to be in specific proportions. This is effected by a water counter comprising two pairs of chambers with variable volumes which also ensure correct dosage of the auxiliary liquid. A counter comprises two cylinders (1a, b) in which pistons (2a, b) form two variable volume chambers (3a, 3a', 3b, 3'b). A shaft (4b) ensures operation in synchronism. Each chamber communicates with an inlet pipe through an orifice and via spring loaded valves. Each chamber communicates with an outlet pipe through an orifice (11) and spring (14) loaded valves (12). As the pistons move the chamber contents are alternately emptied while operating a piston (2b, b) in cylinders (27b) connected to inlet values (28) for auxiliary liquid.
