Back padding material for non-ferrous welding - contains high proportion of petroleum coke, together with graphite, pitch and titanium (SW 6.3.78)

Back padding material consists of by wt. petroleum coke 60-70%, graphite 7-8%, high temp. pitch 10-15% and titanium 13-15%. A pref. compsn. consists of petroleum coke 70-75%, graphite 5-10%, semi-finished coke 7-10% zirconium 7-10% and silicon 2-3%. The material is applied on the back surface of bevelling gap in welding two non-ferrous strips.
