The large diameter bale roller has a series of conveyors (18, 21, 50) which collects any hay leaving the bale-forming zone and returns it to the inlet of that zone. Hay falling from the rear end of the lower conveyor (14) is collected by a screw conveyor (18) and transferred to the lower end of an upwardly inclined chain conveyor (21) housed in a tube (35). The hay falls from the upper end of the conveyor (21) into a screw conveyor (52) discharging into a central tube (54) directed towards the pick-up (12). A spring-loaded shutter (28) is pivoted to the conveyor (18) so as to cover it as the finished bale is ejected.
