The machine-tool cuts circumferential grooves in the core of a cylindrical hole, can be adjusted for depth of cut, and couples directly onto a drive shaft. The tool comprises a rotating shaft-sleeve (1, 3) assembly. the shaft (1) and sleeve (3) are capable of limited relative axial displacement which controls the radial projection of the cutter (14). An inclined bar (8) projects from the base of the shaft (1) and enters complementary slide-way (9) in a slide (10). The slide (10) is mounted on the base of the sleeve (3) moves diametrically as the bar (8) descends, and supports the cutter (14). A flanged-collar stop (20) slides on the outside of the sleeve (3) to determine the axial location of the cut. A diametrical pin (4) in vertically elongated sleeve (3) slots (5) delineates the overall range of shaft (1) to sleeve (3) motion.
