Impregnating wood with preserving fluid - by surrounding with flexible sealed jacket and pumping in fluid

An exposed wooden part of a structure is impregnated with a preserving fluid by surrounding the wooden part with a flexible envelope and sealing it at each end. Air and any liquid in the envelope is sucked out via an outlet and the preserving fluid (e.g. creosote) is fed into the envelope, pref. under pressure through an inlet so that the preserving fluid soaks into the wood. The method is cheap and simple and a good depth of impregnation is achieved.
