The frame for a double-glazed door or window is assembled from elongated metal pieces (1), each with an open channel and interfacing stops (5 - 5, 6 - 6) on the opposite sidewalls (2, 3) of this, in the area of the open edges. These are combined with a covering strip (7, 8) extruded from hard or rigid heat-insulating material, with a lengthways cross-section rib (9) fitting between the stops on the channel. This becomes coupled to the stops, to hold the covering strip firmly in place, while the strip bridges the open edges of the channel sidewalls with its peripheral area (11 - 14), and protrudes laterally across the sidewalling. There may be two such channels in the metal pieces, with ribs on the sealing strip passing between pairs of stops on both. This design combines the advantages of plastic and of metal frames.
