The converter delivers controlled power from a polyphase ac supply source. It comprises a controlled rectifier (52, 54, 56) connecting the supply source phases to a load terminal (58). The second terminal is connected (62) to the supply source. A second controlled rectifier (64) is in parallel to the load, so that load current can flow in the absence of a conducting path between the load and the source. A control device (65) makes each rectifier (52, 54, 56) conducting at instants specified wrt voltages of the neutral point of the connections. Other embodiments are described for higher ratings etc.
