OXYGEN PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF STEELS WITH LOW CARBON AND NITROGEN CONTENT BY USING ARGON

A process for producing low carbon steel by blowing oxygen from above the surface of a bath of ferrous metal contained in a vessel. /P P It consists in introducing a nitrogen-free fluid before the nitrogen content of the bath reaches a minimum, in maintaining the flow rate of the gaseous effluent at a value at least equal to a given minimum, and in continuing introducing nitrogen-free fluid during the remaining part of the oxygen blast. Scope of application: production of low carbon and low nitrogen steel.
