A web of parallel weft threads is produced by (a) position =1 continuous thread into a more or less circular form, (b) aligning the loops formed parallel to each other, (c) cutting the loops, so as to form successive separate lengths of weft thread, (d) tensioning progressively the thread sections formed. Before the cutting operation, the more or less cylindrical web of thread is provided with =2 thread-like elements located one on each side of the line along which the web of threads is to be cut, so as to hold the ends of the sections when they are laid flat. The density of the web can be varied by altering the speed of the belts around which the yarn is laid, without having to fit replacements, as it necessary with known machines forming spirals. The web can be wound for use elsewhere as a reinforcement for paper, film, etc.
