The alignment arrangement is in =2 stages at the ends of which are the points directing the ascent or descent of the trolleys. The trolleys in their active role link up with lugs on the filter plates. In their inactive role they move in conjunction with a roller chain driven on very small pulleys, the small pulleys being possible because the trolleys do not pass over them. The appts. gives a simplification of the alignment arrangement. It removes the necessity of large numbers of chain support pulleys and reduces the torque which affects the drive shafts and the motors.
