The support device is for the coupling arm of a rigid automatic centre buffer coupling. A return mechanism acts under the force of gravity and horizontally centres the coupling arm in its correct position. The coupling arm (4) lies to fit on a transverse carrier (2), hung to effect a pendulum motion on two arms (1) and with a resilient spring effect in the vertical direction. the transverse carrier can be a leaf spring, with a guide-piece (3) fastened to it to accommodate the coupling arm. Alternatively, it can have a draw-rod hinging the ends of the two arms together, or it can be a loop-shaped leaf spring with open ends bent round the arms hinge points.
