Movable harbour for use in developing countries - consists of long self-propelled pontoon moored perpendicular to shore to enable ships to berth on each side
The movable harbour installation may be used in developing countries and comprises a self-propelled pontoon, with bridge gangplanks giving access to the shore-line. Stabilisation is achieved by a combination of moorings and anchorages. The pontoon is perpendicular to the shore so that a cargo vessel may berth on either side. Two moorings extend obliquely and symmetrically from the stern, two simple anchorages from the prow, and two lateral anchorages from each side. The lateral anchor cables extend from a windlass to pass under the vessel and attach to a permanent anchor ring, and can yield under lateral eg berthing forces.
