The building block is designed for assemblies required in the course of constructional engineering and has the smallest basic element (1) with the dimensions of a mosaic unit (A). This element is formed by three plates (10x, 10y, 10z) which create a single unit with each plate aligned in one of the three spatial planes (X.Y.Z). The plates cross each other centrally at right angles whereby six cross-shaped external surfaces (11) are formed. Each plate surface has a borehole (12) through which anchor bolts can be passed to enable several basic units to be joined together. The cross-shaped outer surfaces of the element each have a blind hole drilled in them to accommodate a fitting pin.
