Hot shears for bar stampings - has moving blade support which extends rearwards to act with friction plate and absorb lateral stresses on pivot

The hot shears are used for bar stampings and have the moving blade support (2, 3) extended rearwards (6). This acts in conjunction with a friction plate (7) to absorb the lateral stresses on the moving blade pivot (4). This pivot employs ball races, for radial stresses only and the extended portion of the moving blade support arm has a journal (8) for the drive connecting rod (9). The side face of this journal end is adjusted to slide over the friction plate. The big end (10) of the connecting rod is fitted (11) to a crankshaft (12) rotated by a motor fixed to the main drame (5) carrying the fixed blade (1).
