The toy is held in the hand and powered by the inertia of a mass as a spindle rotates. The hand portion (1) forms a bearing (2) for the spindle (3), the mass being in the form of a spherical weight (7) attached to the bottom of the latter. The spindle is rotated by a cord (4), one end being fixed (5) to the spindle. The other end of the cord has a handle (6). The cord is wound round the spindle and pulled, rotating the spindle and operating a rattle (8) at its other end. Inertia rewinds the cord and this is pulled repeatedly for continuous operation.
