The offshore platform or rig for oil or gas drilling is of the jacking-up type. Screw-jacks between the platform and piles facilitate their positioning, relative to each other, when the rig is at the desired operating point. Shock absorbing elastomeric pads are arranged to reduce any undue vibrations of the platform and/or piles. Each of the ends of the screw-jack body are attached to the rig structure. The shock absorbers may be interposed between the jacks and the rig structure. Preferably the shock absorbers consist of alternate laminations of vulcanised rubber and metal strips.
