The transformer (3) comrises three cores (5, 6, 7) common at one end and each connected by yokes (8, 9, 10) to adjacent cores at the other end. The primary windings (11, 12, 13) are arranged on the cores and connected either directly to the mains supply or to a transducer type regulator (20). The secondary windings (21, 22;23, 24;25, 26) are mounted on the yokes. The secondary windings all have end joined to a common connection (1) whilst the other end (27-32) is taken to a six phase star diode assembly (4). The windings direction of the secondaries is such that the conduction time of each diode is equivalent to that which would obtain in a three phase six pulse bridge. In this way the simplicity of the rectifier connection is available without the need for the additional complication of the transformer with chokes or interphase windings.
