The remote control sanding tool uses a velcro (R.T.M.) type fastener (5, 6) to fix the replaceable abrasive sheet (4) to the sanding plate (2). The arrangement makes for an easy rapid connection and is partic. useful where the interchange of abrasive sheets (4) is effected by remote controlled handling machines operating in a sealed chamber. The connection may include two "velcro" sheets (5, 6) which are respectively bonded to the active face of the sanding plate (2) and the back of the abrasive sheet (4). The connection is made by simply presenting the two "velcro" covered zones to one another. In the case of rotary sanders the permanent "velcro" covered area may be provided by fixing a circular piece (6) to the centre of the rotating plate (2). In the case of oscillating sanders the "velcro" may be applied to the entire plate surface or to the end zones.
