Bomb release for pilotless aircraft - has slotted wheels engaged by rods attached to tail fins and mounted on common shaft with control causing aircraft to crash after release
A rocket propelled pilotless bomber aircraft has a bomb bay carrying four bombs. Each bomb has a dorsal fin with a rod (3) attached to the outer edge. This rod is supported at each end inside the rim of a wheel (2). All the wheels (2) are mounted on a common shaft which is driven mechanically or by an electric motor. The rims of the wheels (2) have slots so that when the wheel has rotated to align the rod (3) with these slots, the rod slips through the slots and the bomb is released. The angular positions of the slots are so arranged that the bombs are released one by one. After releasing the last bomb, the mechanism (4e actuates the tail plane so that the aircraft dives to earth and crashes.
