The novel basic cyclo-immonium gp. contg. azo cpds. free from sulphonic acid gps. are of formula (I): In (I), R = opt. branched 1-6 C alkyl opt. substd. by phenyl, or allyl, or opt. branched 2-6 C alkyl opt. substd. by halogen, CN, OH, 1-4C alkoxy or carboxamido; A is an anion; K is the residue of a coupling component of the alpha-naphthylamine series, a gp. of formula (II) or (III): in which R1 = H, halogen, or unsubstd. opt. branched 1-4 C alkyl or alkoxy; R2 = H or unsubstd. linear 1-4 C alkyl; R3 = R1 excluding halogen. R4 = e.g. H, opt. branched 1-12 C alkyl opt. substd. by phenyl; or opt. branched 2-12 C alkyl substd. e.g. by one or two halogen atoms, one or two OH gps. R5 = e.g. H, opt. branched 1-8 C alkyl opt. substd. by phenyl; opt. branched 2-8 C alkyl substd. e.g. by one or two halogen atoms or by one halogen atom and one OH gp. R6 = phenyl opt. substd. by 1-4 C alkyl, or unsubstd. opt. branched 1-4 C alkyl; R7 = H or unsubstd. opt. branched 1-4 C alkyl; R4 and R5 may together with the N atom to which they are attached form a morpholine, piperidine, pyrrolidine, piperazine or 1-4 C alkylpiperazine ring; R4 and R3 with the N atom linked to R4 and the ring D may also form a tetrahydroquinoline or indoline residue, and these gps. may also be opt. substd., besides the gps. R1, R2 and R5 in the hereto ring portion, by 1-3 1-4 C alkyl gps. Used as greenish-blue dyes for dyeing and printing textiles made of acrylonitrile or dicyanoethylnee homo- and copolymers, acid-modified polyamides and polyesters. Also for bulk dyeing plastics, leather and paper. On polyacrylonitrile and acid-modified polyesters, the dyeings are wet-and light-fast. With mixed fabrics, natural and synthetic polyamides are reserved.
