P the present invention relates to a catalyst for the preparation of polyethylene of high apparent density. A catalyst was prepared from a high efficiency exceptionnement for the polymerization of ethylene using magnesium oxide treated with methanol as a support, an equimolar mixture of titanium tetrachloride and titanate of tetrabutyl as a source of titanium impregnating the support and an organometallic compound - aluminium as reducing agent. / p & & p & polyethylene produced by the catalyst has a narrow distribution of molecular weights, a high apparent density, a melt index is high and a residue at a minimum of the catalyst due to the high ratio of the polymer in the catalyst. / p
