The variable HV DC voltage source, for supplying a polychromatic CRT has a input DC source (V0) applied via a rectifier to a transformer primary winding (3) in series with a pulsed transistor (5). The transformer secondary winding is in series with a second pulsed transistor (16) shunted by a rectifier. The secondary circuit HV output (V1) is applied to the CRT (12). The control circuit (6) for the two transistors generates a rectangular-wave signal modulated in duration by an error signal derived from the HV output and a from a control signal (7). The control signal alters the HV output voltage.
