On spooling machines in the textile industry, a multiplicity of yarn cleaners (3) is used the operating thresholds of which with respect to the error quantities, for example length and diameter, are to be made centrally adjustable. This adjustment by means of electrical signals requires at least one control line to each cleaner which results in considerable installation costs in the case of extensive systems. The yarn cleaners are equipped with electronic memories in which predetermined signal levels can be stored as reference values. All memories of a group of yarn cleaners can be set such a signal level by means of a signal line (5) common to all yarn cleaners, for which the transmission of a pulse code via the signal line (5) is sufficient.
