1497799 Ligature ring applicator I B YOON 23 Dec 1974 55549/74 Heading A5R A ligature applicator for applying resilient ligature rings for female or male sterilization comprises inner and outer relatively longitudinally movable tubes 1, 2 and an inner axially displaceable rod 5 which carries a resilient forceps 6. In use with the ligature rings 12 located in grooves 11 on an end of the inner tube 2 projecting beyond the outer tube 1, the rod 5 is displaced to project the forceps 6 out of the tube 2 whereby they spring apart for subsequent engagement with a body tube. The rod 5 is then retracted whereby the body tube is withdrawn into the inner tube 2 with the forceps 6 being closed against its natural bias by abutment with the inner surface of the inner tube. The outer tube 1 is then slid or, if screwed to the inner tube, rotated to displace the forward ring 12 onto the body tube. The rod 5 is then again projected to expel the body tube. Upon withdrawing the outer tube its resilient end 15 passes behind the now foremost ring 12 for subsequent application. The tubes can be manipulated by ring handles 7, 9 and a ring 4. The forceps and inner tube may have cutting edges. The inner and outer tubes may be lockable with respect to each other by a button or ratchet, Fig. 8 (not shown). The applicator may be used in one bore of a double bored catheter or trocar, the other bore of which accomodates a laparoscope or culdoscope. The rings may be of resilient plastics or metal.
