1507759 Refining copper CSEPELI FEMMU 13 April 1976 [16 April 1975] 14949/76 Heading C7D High-grade copper is produced from blister copper or scrap by melting with simultaneous or subsequent oxidation followed by de-slagging; a slag is then formed by addition of at least one of the oxides of Si, P or B, together with at least one of the oxides of Ti, Al, Ca, Sr, Ba, Mg, Na, K or Li, and at least two of the above-listed elements are added. Calcium, when used, may be added as its carbide. The bath is mixed for at least 30 seconds then, in the case of a batch process, after standing for at least 15 minutes, the slag cover is removed, and the bath is deoxidized and cast. The process may be operated continuously with the additives supplied consecutively to the bath at regular intervals.
