1518962 Automatic control JAPAN TOBACCO & SALT PUBLIC CORP 29 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974] 35642/75 Heading G3N Apparatus for loading cigarette trays onto selfpropelled carrying vehicles operates automatically under the control of magnetically operated switches which successively cause the carrying vehicle to be re-positioned after each tray is loaded and positions subsequent vehicles in abutting relation to a previous vehicle. The vehicle, shown in Fig. 3, follows a buried cable 55 until rollers 60 engage with a guide bar 5 forming part of the fixed assembly at the cigarette making machine and the drive motor is switched off when magnet 35b co-operates with reed-switch sensor 63a. The vehicle is again powered and allowed to coast by the action of electromagnet 36a and magnet 35a until the feed pin 59a is in a position to engage the reciprocating pawl 9a and subsequently pawl 9 which moves the pin forward until it can be engaged by fork 28. The pins 59 are spaced at intervals such that, when held by fork 28, the trays 57 are aligned with the pushing mechanism which loads and unloads them (see Fig. 5). When a tray is loaded the mechanism closes a switch to lift fork 28 and power pneumatic cylinder 22 to move the vehicle until the next pin can be engaged by fork 28. When all trays have been loaded reed switch 63c is operated by electromagnet 36b to power motor 64 and the loaded vehicle departs. Subsequent vehicles are brought into abutting relationships by the alternate coasting and running of motor 64 and the action of the reciprocating pawl carrying lever 7 which operates to bring a second vehicle into abutting relationship with a first vehicle during loading of the latter.
