1530709 Dismutation catalysts INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 29 Oct 1976 [31 Oct 1975] 45130/76 Heading B1E [Also in Divisions C1 and C5] A catalyst for aromatic hydrocarbon dismutation and transalkylation consists of a mordenite of pore size 7-8Š containing less than 0.5% by weight Na in which the SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 molar ratio is 10-12 which contains at least one of Ni, Cu and Ag, preferably in amounts of 2-15.1% Ni, 2.5-16.2% Cu and 5-25.9% Ag, and in which the amount of exchangeable Fe present is less than 0.01 %. The catalyst is particularly suitable for the dismutation of toluene to produce benzene and xylene or the transalkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene and trimethylbenzenes to produce xylene.
