PURPOSE:To internal surface of groove type induction furnace is lined with thermosetting or self sintered type dry refractory material, and then heated, thereby drastically reducing the time between the lining and actual operation. CONSTITUTION:Internal lining is performed for groove type induction furnace to be used for melting cast iron or cast steel. First, insulating refractory material 4 is applied to the upper melting chamber 1, and thermosetting or self sintering type dry refractory material 5 is inserted between the material 4 and the frame 6 to form dry lining. Self dry type refractory 5 is applied to the lower heating chamber 2 at its internal surface. In order to start the furnace, the top melting chamber 1 is preheated by burner and at the same time, the lower heating chamber 2 is heated by passing current through the coil 8 to heat the groove metal mold 7, thermosetting the lining wall 5, the frame 6 is removed, and fired by further rising temperature. Then, molten metal is poured in for furnace operation. Conventional wet lining requires one to two weeks for drying and firing, while this process needs no drying and takes only 12 to 36 hours for preheating, resulting in remarkably reduced idle time.
