AXIAL THRUST REDUCING METHOD FOR CENTRIFUGAL* MIXED FLOW PUMP

PURPOSE:To facilitate manufacture and assembly, by reducing the axial thrust through making a communicating slit on the periphery of a rear disc. CONSTITUTION:A centrifugal, mixed flow pump has a communicating slit 6 on the periphery of a rear disc 1c to introduce pressure water from outside to the inside of an impeller. The revolution of the impeller 1 makes fluid gush out through the slit 6 from a clearance 7 between the disc 1c and casing 3b to the inside of vanes 1b, thus producing an inward leak flow which carries a large angular motion of the fluid at the outer end of the impeller towardthe clearance 7. This reduces the fluid pressure in the clearance 7 and reduces the axial thrust of the impeller 1. The manufacture and assembly of the pump is very easy due to a lack of a clearance 4.
