NEW MATERIAL:Simple glucan (polysaccharide) of the formula having a molecular weight of several million, containing no protein and having a structural unit which consists of beta-1,3 glucoside bonds as the main chain, wherein 1 glucose unit forms beta-1,6-glucoside bond 3 to gulcose units. EXAMPLE:A glucan having the structural unit of e.g. 2,4,6-tri-O-methyl-D-glucopyranose. USE:Oncostatic drug which is water-soluble, not antigenic, injectable, and has excellent effects. Effective for protection and prevention of deterioration of immunity and physical strength, and virus-caused infectious desease resulted therefrom, e.g. hepatitis, pneumonia etc. PROCESS:For the preparation of the glucan of the formula, cultured mycelia of Coriolus versicolor are subsequently treated as follows: Extraction with hot water, precipitation with ethanol, elution with an aqueous sodium acetate solution, and treatment with an ion-exchanger.
