A jacquard machine having healds moved upwardly by positive drive means and downwardly by resilient drive means in the form of helical tension springs which are stressed during the upward movement of the healds. Each spring has a conically shaped upper end and each heald is flexurally stiff and extends axially through the spring. Above its central eye each heald is provided with a thickened portion which is received in the conically shaped upper end of the respective spring. The bottom end of each spring is fastened by a funnel-shaped widened portion in a correspondingly shaped opening of a rigid apertured board.
