The pump 4 may be either of the centrifugal type or a gear-pump, and the motor and pump 20 may be meshing- screw machines of the Juno type. The pump 20 may be fed initially by an electrically-driven pump 31 energized by a generator 29, a coupling 28 being disconnected until sufficient pressure is developed at the inlet 19 of the pump 20. The plant may comprise two main Diesel engines furnished with individual pumps (20a, 20b), Fig. 2 (not shown). The pump 20 may feed a multiplicity of hydraulic motors driving individual lubricating-oil pumps for various parts of the plant, Fig. 3 (not shown).
