1502197 Covering pipelines OCCIDENTAL OEL GmbH 13 Feb 1976 [17 Feb 1975] 05700/76 Heading F2P A method of covering a pipeline laid in the ground with a heat insulating and corrosion inhibiting jacket of a mixture of a thermoplastic bonding agent and heat-insulating materials comprises introducing loose granular material into a trench containing a pipeline and applying hot liquid bonding agent to the loose granular material around the pipe to fill the gaps existing in the loose granular material. The loose granular material, which may be 80% bitumen and 20% insulating material (e.g. perlite), may be introduced firstly up to half the height of the pipe and hot liquid bonding agent applied over the pipe and into the loose granular material and after the bonding agent has cooled the remainder of the loose granular material and bonding agent can be applied. The loose granular material may be applied over the entire length of the pipe and the bonding agent be applied continuously along the loose granular material. The hot liquid bonding agent may be bitumen at a temperature of at least 200‹ C.
