The lifeboat davit has pneumatic/hydraulic actuation and may be used for launching lifeboats of any size. The arm (1) has a deck-mounted pivot (2) and is swung out by a double acting hydraulic ram (10). To launch the boat, the hydraulic system is actuated by compressed air released from cylinders on opening of a valve. A hydraulic pump serves to return the davit to its inboard position and simultaneously restores gas pressure in the actuating cylinders.
