The present invention relates to substantive disazo dyes of the formula IMAGE in which D1 and D2 independently of one another are each a radical of a diazo component, R1 and R2 independently of one another are hydrogen or methyl, R3 is hydrogen or hydroxyethyl and R4 is hydroxyethyl. These dyes are useful for dyeing or printing a wide variety of materials and especially for dyeing paper.
