Novel amines of the formula (I) IMAGE in which R denotes methyl or ethyl, are prepared by an N-alkylation process. This starts either from a compound of the formula (II) IMAGE wherein X1 denotes the hydroxyl group and Z a reactive esterified hydroxyl group or X1 and Z together form an epoxy group, which compound is reacted with isopropylamine, or starts from a compound of the formula (III) IMAGE wherein R has the above meaning, which is reacted with a compound of the formula (IV Z-CH=(CH3)2 (IV wherein Z has the abovementioned meaning. The amines are obtained in the form of free bases or of therapeutically acceptable acid addition salts. The compounds of the formula (I) possess valuable pharmacological properties; they exhibit, for example, cardioselective ss-receptorblocking properties whilst retaining activities which are useful in the treatment of Angina pectoris.
