The arrangement introduces lubricating oil into a combustion engine cylinder, partic. in a ship's Diesel engine. The oil is pressurised during a period corresponding with at least a 2 deg. crank angle and pref. maintained at that constant pressure so as to enter the cylinder through lubrication ports in the cylinder wall. The oil may be held in a pressurised oil vessel or may be pressurised by a positive displacement pump e.g. gear pump. The oil supply may be regulated by a control valve. Control may be as a function of engine power output and/or engine speed and/or the amt. of oil supplied to the cylinder per unit time.
