Membrane filtration unit - with rigid membrane supporting tubes between end plates, flexible cylindrical seal between tube and end plate with rigid retaining sleeve

A membrane filtration unit consists of an outer cylindrical shell with end plates and dished end covers. The membranes are cylindrical and supported by rigid tubes which are perforated to permit the passage of liq. The membranes and tube assemblies fit between the end plates, holes in the plates providing communication between the end chambers and the inside of each tube. Fluid feed and discharges are in the dished ends of the unit whilst the permeate discharge is in the shell. An elastic sleeve (esp. of PVC) inside the tube ends effects a seal between tube and end plate and a rigid tube with an outer dia. pref. slightly greater than the inside dia. of the sleeve is pushed into the tube ends to retain the seal. Lips punched out of the wall of each retaining sleeve prevent it from moving. This form of construction is simple and economic using readily obtainable components for the sleeve assembly.
