Particles suspended in a liq. are sepd. by being initially mixed with a gas or vaporisable material under press. and introduced into a feed chamber of the separator. The mixt. is depressurised just before entry into the separator, so that a more or less colloidal gas bubble mixt is obtd., and the particles are made buoyant by adhesion to these gas bubbles. Preferably the liq. is exposed to a press. of 015-1 N/mm2. The pressurized liq. is the liq. freed of suspended particles, or an additional liq. or the suspension to be treated, which may be introduced together with the pressurized liq. into the feed chamber. Typically the gas used is air.
