1417162 Animal feed UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA and W R STANTON 17 April 1973 [3 March 1972] 10170/72 Heading A2B [Also in Divisions Cl and C6] Animal foodstuffs are prepared from algae obtained in a process for treating waste material produced during the manufacture of rubber. The process comprises partially clarifying the waste material, admixing the partially clarified liquor with algal flora of one or more of the genera of the Divisions Chlorophyta, Euglenophyta and Cyanophyta and allowing the algae to grow in the presence of light and then collecting the algae. Preferably algal flora of the genera Chlorella, Scenedesmus or Spirulina is employed although other genera which may be used include Oscillatoria, Euglena, Monoraphidium and Oocystis. Additional carbon sources e.g. waste molasses, canning waste, tapioca waste and oil-palm factory waste, can be added during the process. The algal material serves to enrich foodstuff preparations in protein and other nutrients, and may supplement a tapioca feed and replace conventional additives such as maize and proteinaceous additives such as fish meal.
