A heat pump, the vaporising side of which is connected to =1 source of low temp. heat, whilst its condenser side is connected to =1 point where the heat is utilised, forms part of a heat recovery plant finding application when low temp. heat is available and/or when the requirements for heat vary. The plant includes a separate heat storage arrangement which can be supplied with excess heat from the heat pump and can also be connected to the vaporising side of the heat pump, so as to overcome a heat deficit. The source of low temp. heat may be a solar energy collector and excess heat from the heat pump is normally fed into the store. When there is excess heat in the store because only small quantities are being used and/or when there is an excess of low temp. heat, before being fed to the store the temp. of the medium can be raised to a higher level.
