A composition suitable for use as a base for a cream intended for dermatological or other medicinal use contains from 0.6% to 15% on a weight basis of microfibres having an extremely high specific surface. The incorporation of such microfibres can considerably improve the delayed release of an active agent incorporated in a cream. The active agent may be occluded in the microfibres prior to their incorporation in the base.
