The motor has a cylinder (29) at the ends of which are permanent magnets (1, 2) with N and S poles facing one another. These magnets are made of a cobalt-rare metal alloy. The excitation coil (5) surrounds the reciprocating 'rotor' (9), and a switching device changes the direction of the current through the coil (5) when the 'rotor' reaches the end of its travel, so as to change its direction of magnetisation. Two rods (12, 13) connect the 'rotor' with the motor drive arrangement which may use a crank to achieve rotary motion. The rods may slide in bushes (14), and the 'rotor' reciprocates in a closed chamber (30).
