(Iso) Imidylphthalic anhydrides as curing agents for epoxy resins - give prods. with improved mechanical, thermal and electrical props

(Iso)imidyl phthalic anhydrides of formula (I) (in which one of X and Y is O and the other is a bivalent radical (II); A is a 2-8C bivalent gp. opt. contg. a C=C bond), are useful as curing agents for epoxy resins. Cpds. (I) do not sublime and have good compatibility with epoxy resins. They have good thermal stability and are esp. useful in hot-cured epoxy compsns. e.g. for moulding, coating, impregnation etc., giving cured prods. with improved mechanical, thermal and electrical props.
