The underwater tunnel barrier is used especially for blocking the inlet tube of a pumping turbine. A gate valve is pushed from above to isolate the tunnel. This gate is held on a rod, rope or chain. The valve arrangement is compact and ensures low flow losses. This valve is used to protect the turbine and the power stations against flooding. The gate valve (7) is free to rotate on the tension rod (8) about a horizontal axis which is at right angles to the flow direction. The gate valve can also swing about its pivoting axis. The valve is prevented from moving in closed position.
