The equipment for transferring bulk material from a covered dump has a portal frame (10) spanning the dump, supported on rollers (12) travelling on rails each end. This carries a scraper conveyor (14) which can remove material and deposit it onto a belt conveyor (18) along one side of the dump. Two cutters (20) can travel along the frame (10) to loosen the surface of the dump. At one end, under the roof (32) is a half portal unit (22) which has a foot with rollers (24) travelling on a side extension (26). Further rollers (30) travel along guides (32) at roof level. This carries a lifting arm (34) which can be swung at a required angle, clear of the portal frame (10) below.
