MULTIGIGAWATT PEAK-POWER GENERATION FROM PULSE TYPE LASERS

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn improved pulse type laser system and methodof producing ultra-short high-power pulses. The pulsetype laser system comprises a master oscillator laser forproducing a low power shot pulse for regenerative ampli-fication within a gain medium of a second pulse type laseror slave oscillator laser. A triggering circuit means isprovided to trigger the medium of both lasers at differenttimes whereby to produce a gain in the medium of thesecond laser after the first laser has produced the shotpulse to permit the feeding of the shot pulse into thesecond laser when the gain of the medium in the secondlaser presents a low value. The intensity of the in-jected shot pulse is always higher than the intensityof the amplified spontaneous emission noise in the medium.
