INTERMIXED LINE HEIGHTSAND BLANK LINE FORMATION IN A BUFFERED PRINTERAbstract of the DisclosureIntermixing of line heights in a buffered printeris accomplished by storing a different byte in a forms controlbuffer for each line of coded character data in a page to beprinted. As the coded data of each line is advanced forprinting by an arrangement which modulates a laser beam duringscanning across a printable medium to effect the printing, thebyte within the forms control buffer corresponding to the lineabout to be printed causes selection of the number of scans ofthe laser beam to be used in printing the line, thereby deter-mining the height of each line independently of the other linesin the page. Blank lines in the page are formed by channelcommands to the printer which instruct an address registerassociated with the forms control buffer to be incremented tocause skipping to a particular channel number identified byone of the bytes in the forms control buffer or to cause spacingby a specified number of lines. Each time the address registeris incremented a special coded byte is inserted into the pagebeing made up of the coded character data. Upon printing theoccurrence of each special coded byte causes inhibiting of theprinting arrangement, thereby forming a blank line.
