METHOD OF MAKING A ZINC SULPHIDE CERAMIC BODYAND A ZINC SULPHIDE CERAMIC BODY MADE WHEREBYABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA method of making a zinc sulphide ceramic body havinga low electrical resistance characterized by sulphurizing astarting oxide material consisting essentially of zinc oxideand from 0.01 mole % to 6.0 mole % of at least one oxide ofa metal selected from the group consisting of aluminium, mag-nesium, nickel, cobalt, cadmium, lead, indium, bismuth, antimony,titanium, zirconium, silicon, tin, niobium, tantalum, tungsten,and the rare earth element metals in a carbon disulphideatmosphere at a temperature in the range of 700°C to 1000°C.This zinc sulphide ceramic body can be formed into nonlinearelements such as phosphors, photoconductors, luminescentelements, varistors, piezoelectric transducers, capacitors andcombinations thereof. Particularly, by using this zincsulphide body in light emitting elements, the luminous efficiencyas well as the working voltage can be improved.
